Table Shows (last updated April 2009)
A Table Show is conducted at each monthly meeting. It is much more social than it is competitive. We have only two categories - Open/Intermediate - and Novice/Beginner. We do it this way to give the beginners a chance to practice the skills needed for showing budgerigars before they get to the stage of showing at major shows.
Our theme of gaining experience is further enhanced by having less experienced members judge the Table Show. A senior member is always on hand to help out by describing the task at hand but the decisions are always left to the allocated judge. There are no wrong decisions!
Any bird is eligible on any given night. If you did not actually breed the bird you must show it in the Open/Intermediate section. This has no effect on your restricted status.
In December we have all varieties and invite a guest judge to a Xmas social show. The judging is open and anyone can talk with the judge during the judging to gain an insight into what judges are looking for and how they make their decisions.
At every meeting the birds are critiqued in a positive manner to assist their owners to decide where to go with them.
A History of Table Show results from 1977 to 1996 was compiled by Barbara Geary.
